The Khmu are a small ethnic minority of just under 900,000 people living throughout the highlands of Southeast Asia. Though often marginalized and historically treated as second-class citizens, God has been raising up a vibrant community of believers among them. Today more than 70,000 Khmu have come to faith in Christ – many through FEBC’s radio broadcasts and outreach efforts for more than three decades already.
Through regular outreach trips, the FEBC team continues to encourage Khmu Christians and share the Gospel with those who have yet to hear. In the remote mountain villages, traditional radios still carry the message of Jesus – offering hope and new life to a people once overlooked, but never forgotten by God.
Last year, more than 100 Khmu youth traveled from Laos to attend a Christian youth camp in Thailand organized by the FEBC staff. It was an event filled with joy, worship, and testimonies of faith. It was there that FEBC broadcaster Samuel* met two young listeners whose stories revealed how powerfully God is working among the Khmu people.

Sunya* is 19 years old and an orphan. Her parents passed away when she was young, leaving her in the care of her relatives. When she was 17 years old, she heard of the Good News through FEBC’s broadcast and made the courageous decision to follow Jesus. But her new faith in Christ brought immediate opposition from her relatives.
Many among the Khmu people believe that worshiping Jesus dishonours the spirits of their ancestors, a tradition which they have followed for generations. Sunya’s relatives were furious at her decision to become a Christian, and threatened to abandon her if she didn’t renounce her faith. One uncle even went as far as to threaten her life.
Her story is a powerful testimony of how God strengthens and provides for those who choose to trust Him, no matter the cost.
Yet, with prayers and by God’s grace, Sunya stood firm in her faith. Despite the fear and rejection she faced, she refused to deny Christ. Today, she has left her relatives’ home and is living with another uncle who is a local pastor and a faithful believer. Sunya has graduated from high school and is now working towards her dream of studying mathematics at university.
