KAZAKHSTAN
Faith in a Difficult Place

Across the country of Kazakhstan, a quiet yet powerful spiritual awakening is stirring among a younger generation that is hungry for truth and purpose. In Kazakhstan, following Jesus can be risky – and even talking about faith must be done carefully.

During the decades of Soviet rule, the government’s mission was to erase all traces of faith, teaching the people of Kazakhstan that God did not exist. Churches were shut down, destroyed, and belief in God was often met with severe punishment. For the older generations of Kazakhs, hearing the Gospel was not just rare – it could be dangerous, with risks of imprisonment or death for seeking the truth of Jesus Christ.

In 2005, FEBC established a presence in Kazakhstan with the hopes of broadcasting to FM frequencies. To this day, they have yet to secure an FM station license. However, the team did not lose heart – they saw it as God opening a new door. The team brought together a group of passionate young believers, and they began sharing the Gospel through social media – reaching thousands of young people hungry for hope and truth.

In Kazakhstan, many people have never heard the true message of the Gospel. Years of propaganda and misinformation have distorted the understanding of what it means to follow Jesus. It is illegal to openly proselytize or invite others to become Christians.

Yet even with all these obstacles, God is raising up a generation in Kazakhstan that is passionate and willing to share the Good News despite all the challenges they face. While traditional evangelism is restricted, talking about who Jesus is, explaining Christian beliefs, and sharing personal testimonies is allowed. Within these boundaries, the FEBC team in Kazakhstan has been using every opportunity to reach the next generation with the message of hope, particularly through online platforms.

FEBC’s team in Kazakhstan is made up of young believers who share a deep understanding of the struggles their generation faces; disillusionment, debt, addiction, and searching for identity and purpose. Instead of preaching sermons, they use their platforms to share powerful and authentic stories of how God has and continues to transform lives. Through social media and podcasts, they share real testimonies of people who have encountered Jesus and found lasting hope.

When listeners reach out with questions or a longing to know more, broadcasters are ready to respond—personally and prayerfully—guiding them toward the truth and love of Christ. Every message is an opportunity to point someone closer to Jesus.

Listeners and viewers who want to know more about Jesus are invited to FEBC’s coffee shop, a warm and welcoming space, where the Good News is shared and lives are being transformed.

Kazakhstan has one of the highest suicide rates in the world, and many young people feel trapped in hopeless cycles of addiction and debt. But through FEBC’s creative media outreach, many are now hearing powerful stories – stories of redemption, forgiveness, and of new life in Christ.

Kazakhstan is a nation of first-generation believers – many of these young Christians are the first in their families to accept Jesus Christ as their saviour. In a country with few established churches, these believers face unique challenges in their walk with Christ. That makes FEBC’s mission to broadcast the hope and truth of the Gospel so important in places like Kazakhstan. With every hour of broadcasting, God’s Word is reaching hearts, building up new believers, and planting seeds in a region that is looking for truth and hope.

We lift up the team of young FEBC broadcasters in Kazakhstan who continue to boldly share the Gospel. Lord, fill them with wisdom, courage and the power of the Holy Spirit as they proclaim Your love. Lord, open hearts among the next generation, that they would come to know new life found only in You, Jesus. Amen.
